Kebony is the Norwegian company standing behind the world-wide sensation in the production and research of timber. Many years of innovative thinking brought the desired results.

Kebony developed the technology providing architects, designers, builders and crafters with the following:

  • The contemporary and innovative solutions,
  • Durability and minimum care, and
  • Environment consideration.

The products made of Kebony timber shall replace those wooden surfaces that require lacquering and painting. They are also the adequate replacement for the impregnated wood and the rare wood species from rain forests and this is also the important issue of future. Just these reasons make Kebony the timber of future.

WHAT IS KEBONIZATION?Technological processing procedure

The process of impregnation and heating shall permanently modify the wood cell walls whereby the resistance and stability of timber is improved. The process is called kebonization.

Kebonization is the patented process preserving and improving all the material properties. Timber becomes harder, stronger and more durable.

Liquids used in the process comprise the substances enriching the wood cell structure. The process includes the following:

  • The ingredients mixed exactly according to the patent formula using the liquid derived from agricultural bio-waste.
  • The wood is impregnated with the liquid under pressure.
  • The wood is heated above 100°C and the polymerised chemical substance shall permanently amends its cell structure.
  • The excessive liquid shall be recycled and used in the further production process.

The patented modification Kebony methods are the result of many-year research in Norway, Sweden and Canada. They are based also on the cooperation with the universities and institutes: Norwegian Institute of Wood Technology, Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute, SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden, SHR Timber Research (Netherlands), University of New Brunswick a Woodtech (Canada).

Kebony has all the features of tropical teak timber, from the point of view of strength, life and resistance against weather.

Kebony determines the direction of view for the future and at the same time it brings the solution for the absurd deforestation of tropical forests fulfilling their important role for population. The quantity of customers, architects, or even the public sector decided to be the pioneers and they realized the true values of timber, such as resistance, strength, aesthetics and they prefer the innovative technologies of processing of renewable wood species to exotic species.

Kebony is the new generation of wood for the customers requiring longevity and the supreme quality of floor covering.

What is the difference between Kebony and thermally-modified wood?

Kebonization process is the combination of biological waste liquid impregnation and heating to 100 ° C, the process strengthens and condenses the wood cell walls, resulting in the stability in potential bend greater by 50%.

The process of thermally treated wood is purely wood processing at very large temperature (170 ° C - 215 ° C), that does not change the wood cell structure, the wood stiffens and cell walls become more fragile whereby the material becomes more sensitive to attacks in time.

The concept of leading-market is not to smear but to veraciously show the natural development in wood processing to people. It has passed from the exotic species to very successful Thermo-wood up to the new wood enriched by the innovative processing procedures. They were duly given the prestigious prizes, Norway and its KEBONY.
